@OspreySB Completes Weekend Sweep of UCF Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team defeated Middle Tennessee 7-6 and South Dakota 6-4 to finish their weekend 4-0 at the UCF Tournament Saturday in Orlando, Fla.

North Florida 7, Middle Tennessee 6
Â
In the first game of the day against Middle Tennessee, the Ospreys took an early lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run single by freshman Jenna Brownell.

Middle Tennessee took the lead, 3-2 in the top of the third, but the Ospreys put up four runs in the bottom of the third to go up 6-3, highlighted by a bases-clearing double by senior Shelby Duncan.

The Blue Raiders battled back and tied the game in the top of the fifth, 6-6. After two scoreless innings, the Ospreys captured the victory in walk off fashion with Brownell's third RBI of the day, scoring Duncan on a single in the bottom of the seventh for the 7-6 victory.

In the second game of the day and the final game of the weekend, the Ospreys once again prevailed in come-from-behind fashion.

North Florida broke through a stalemate in the top of the fifth, scoring two runs on an error and a sacrifice fly. South Dakota responded with a four-run bottom of the fifth, highlighted by a bases-clearing double.

The Ospreys responded right back, scoring four runs of their own in the top of the sixth, freshman Navia Penrod started the scoring with a two-RBI single, followed by a RBI single by senior Katie Mandigo, Duncan capped off the inning with a RBI single of her own.

Junior Logan Green came in for the Ospreys in the circle and earned the win in the relief effort, striking out two in 2.1 innings pitched.

The Ospreys are on the road once again for their final tournament next weekend. They'll face Penn in a neutral-site matchup in Clearwater, Fla., before facing Fairfield, Southern Illinois, Winthrop, Maine and South Florida in the USF Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla.
