PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- The No. 37-ranked North Florida men's golf team improved by one shot but slipped to second place in the standings after second round action in UNF's home event, The Hayt, being played at Sawgrass Country Club.
The Ospreys carded a second round 292 for a 36-hole total of 585, which is four shots behind No. 13 Oklahoma State. The Cowboys finished with a 7-under 581 on moving day to take the leaderboard top spot with a score of 581.
UNF freshman Andrew Alligood got to 5-under through eight holes before double-bogeys on two of the next three holes slowed him a bit. Alligood would collect a pair of birdies down the stretch to finish with a team best 69 (-3) on Saturday. His strong play allowed him to move into the Top 10 finishing the day tied for seventh at 146. Fellow freshman Philip Knowles carded his second straight under-par performance finishing with a 1-under 71 to own the second-place spot with a two-day tally of 141.
"We were really carried by the two freshmen today," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "Philip was solid again and Andrew did a great job of posting a good score. We need to rest up and come ready to play on Sunday. It should be an exciting and competitive final round."
Dillon Woods is tied for 21st for UNF at 149 following a second round 77 while senior Taylor Hancock shot a 79 and is tied for 38th (153). Freshman Travis Trace rounded out the Osprey lineup with 75, marking a six shot improvement, and is tied for 60th (156).

OSU was the only team to shoot under par on Saturday, while No. 50 Tennessee finished at even par to climb five places into a tie for third at 593 along with Jacksonville. No. 38 UAB wrapped up the Top 5 with a score of 596. The Cowboys' Bendon Jelley fired the low round of the weekend, 4-under 68, to take the lead in the medalist competition by three shots with a total of 138.
Tournament action concludes with Sunday's final round beginning at 7:30 a.m. North Florida will tee off at 9 a.m. from Hole No. 1 playing alongside Oklahoma State and Tennessee. The Hayt is open to the public with free admission and live scoring is available online at Golfstat.com.
