@OspreySB Tops Villanova in Day Two of Madeira Beach Invitational

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team earned their first win of the 2016 season, defeating Villanova 8-1 Saturday night in their second day at the Madeira Beach Invitational.

The Ospreys (1-7) got on the board early in the second inning when sophomore Ashley Niesman hit a solo home run to left field, her first of the season and fifth of her career.

Villanova tied the game in the bottom of the third, but the Ospreys responded with a five run fourth inning, which included a two-RBI double by senior Lexi Taylor, plus RBI singles by freshman Navia Penrod and senior Katie Mandigo.

The Ospreys added another run in the fifth off of a walk to make the score 7-1, before senior Stacy McClelland made the score 8-1 with a RBI single.

Earning the win in the circle for the Ospreys was junior Logan Gree, who struck out four and scattered four hits across a complete game.
Â
Niesman finished 3-for-3, while McClelland finished 3-for-4 and Mandigo went 3-for-5 on the day.

The Ospreys close their trip to Madeira Beach with two games tomorrow against Manhattan at 9 a.m. and Marist at 11:30 a.m. A complete recap will be available on UNFOspreys.com.
