
Athletics Announces Hall of Fame Inductees for 2017

JACKSONVILLE – The University of North Florida Athletic Department announced the UNF Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2017 featuring four standout athletes along with a championship level team.

Danny Simmerman (men's golf), Adam Kework (men's tennis), Darryl Kennedy (baseball) and Zepherinus "Zeph" Joseph (xc/track & field) highlight the individual student-athlete selections while the Osprey's 1999-2000 Men's Golf team rounds out the newest group of honorees to the Hall.

"Every year our Hall of Fame weekend festivities are some of the most special events for the Athletic Department and our alumni," said UNF Athletic Director Lee Moon. "The Hall of Fame is our opportunity to recognize, highlight and celebrate the best of the best in North Florida athletic history. The selection committee again did another outstanding job in selecting a class that honors the greats of our past, who were the trailblazers and foundation for our program's current successes as well as our future accomplishments. We are excited to have the opportunity of welcoming the honorees, alumni and fans back to campus for this memorable event."

The 2017 UNF Athletic Hall of Fame Class induction ceremony and reception is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.

Zepherinus "Zeph" Joseph (Track & Field/Cross-Country, 1999-2002)
"I am ever so grateful to be inducted into the UNF Athletic Hall of Fame. It is really an honor to be among all those who have made UNF the great school it is. Thank you for making me part of the UNF family from August 2000 until now."

- Finished 2nd in 5,000m and 10,000m at 2002 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track Championships
- Qualified for men's marathon at 2004 Athens Olympics representing St. Lucia
- Chosen as St. Lucia's Olympic flagbearer for 2004 Opening Ceremonies
- Named 2009 St. Lucia Sportsman of the Year

- Selected by the Texas Rangers in the 1991 Amateur draft
- Batted over .350 for his career at UNF and owned a .989 fielding percentage

- Finished career ranked among program's Top 10 in sacrifice flies, on-base pct., walks, putouts, batting average, chances, triples and fielding pct.
- Spent 6 seasons in the Rangers farm system before ending his career in the SF Giants organization, making it to AAA
- Served as minor league manager in the Kansas City Royals system.
