JACKSONVILLE -- North Florida senior Elle Baker and freshman Bobby Harris turned in some of the best performances of their careers Friday on the second day of competition in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary at UNF's Hodges Stadium.
A native of Melbourne, Fla., Baker capped her decorated Osprey career by making a second consecutive appearance at the NCAA East Prelim. She concluded her collegiate running campaign with a personal best 10:19.25 in the 3,000m Steeplechase. Running in the first of three heats for the event, Baker finished 12th in her heat and 32nd overall. In her career, Baker claimed multiple all-conference honors on the track and also garnered multiple academic accolades in the classroom.
"This was an awesome way for Elle to finish out her career," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "Running your lifetime best in your last race at the NCAA Prelim on your home track is pretty cool. Elle had a nice career at UNF and is truly a  great representative for what kind of program we have and want to continue being on and off the track."
Harris, who hails from Spring Hill, Fla., followed up his Atlantic Sun Conference gold medal performance with another strong outing in the NCAAs. He finished 19th in the high jump following a jump of 2.09m (6'10.25"), the second best mark of his career. He narrowly missed advancing to the NCAA finals when his third attempt at a career best matching 2.13m just nudged the bar off.
"We are very proud of how Bobby handled himself in a meet at this level where he battled some of the best jumpers in the East Region and the nation," Pigg added. "He showed a great amount of poise to bounce back after missing his first jump of the day. Bobby was our best finisher of the meet and competed at a high level and that is exciting for the future."
North Florida's 2015 track and field season is now complete but included some exciting and promising performances. The NCAA East Prelim will wrap up with a final day of competition on Saturday beginning with field events at 1:30 p.m. and running at 6 p.m.
