LUBBOCK, Texas -- The No. 23-ranked North Florida men's golf team moved up to 12th place in the NCAA Lubbock Regional on Friday following a second round 292 at The Rawls Course.
The Ospreys own a two-day total of 583 after back-to-back rounds of inconsistent play. Senior Joey Petronio was UNF's top performer in the second round carding a score of 1-over 72.
Juniors Taylor Hancock (73) and Austin Padova (74) lead the way for the Osprey lineup with both players currently tied for 51st with tournament totals of 146.
"We got off to another slow start today but bounced back during the middle of the round," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "Our 12th and 16th holes hurt us down the stretch and we were unable to make up some ground. I was proud of the way the guys kept battling, but we have just not putted well or been able to get the ball close with our wedges this week."
Senior Parker Jones shot a second round 75 and is tied for 58th at 147 along with redshirt freshman Dillon Woods, who boasted a round of 73 on Friday. Petronio is currently tied for 63rd heading into the final round.
Tournament host Texas Tech leads the team competition by three strokes at 552, after posting a second round 274 to move into the top spot. No. 2-ranked Texas is second at 555 followed by Duke (558) and Houston (561). Southeastern Louisiana and Louisville are currently tied for the fifth and final advancing spot at 564 with 18 holes left to play.
California's KK Limbhasut tops the individual medalist list with an 8-under 134.
Lubbock Regional action concludes with a final round on Saturday. North Florida is scheduled to play alongside UC Irvine and Georgia State beginning at 8:25 a.m. (9:25 a.m. ET) from Hole 10.
The top five teams and highest finishing individual player not on one of those teams qualify for the NCAA Championship on May 29-June 3 in Bradenton, Fla.
