No. 25 @OspreyMGolf Opens Strong at General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The No. 25-ranked North Florida men's golf team posted the lowest round of the day in the opening round and continued their strong play in the afternoon to finish Monday's first day of competition in second place at the General Hackler Championship.
The Ospreys fired a 9-under 279 in the morning round of play at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club to grab the early lead before closing the day with a second round 295 for a 36-hole total of 2-under 574.
Junior Taylor Hancock paced a trio of UNF linksters with opening rounds in the 60s, finishing the first 18 holes of play in a personal record 6-under 66. Seniors Joey Petronio and Parker Jones posted rounds of 68 and 69, respectively. Hancock followed up his career best with a 75, while Petronio boasted a 73 with the pair sharing the team lead in a tie for seventh with matching tournament scores of 141.
Jones added a second round 76 to join his teammates among the Top 20, sitting in a tie for 13th at 145. Redshirt freshman Dillon Woods posted rounds of 76-73=149 (T37th) and junior Austin Padova had a 76-74=150 (T40th) to round out the Osprey lineup.
"We played very well for about 27 holes today," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "Then we struggled for a bit to close the day. We need to bounce back in the final round if we want to have a chance to win."
North Carolina State's afternoon round of 283 pushed the Wolfpack to the front of the team competition with a two-round tally of 5-under 571, followed by the Ospreys. Iowa State is third at 583 with Kent State and North Texas tied at 586 to fill out the Top Five squads.
Tournament action in the General Hackler concludes with a final round on Tuesday. Live scoring results are available on www.golfstat.com.
