Charleston Highlights: A rainout on Sunday cut short this past weekend's stay in Charleston as the Ospreys came home with a 1-2 record. The lone win was a dominant, 14-2 victory over Big East Preseason favorite, St. John's on Saturday. Sophomore Tyler DuPont put forth another stellar performance on the mound, pitching eight innings and striking out a career-best, six batters. Offensively, the Ospreys got four-hit performances from Trent Higginbothem and James Abbatinozzi. The weekend didn't end without another one-run game for North Florida. Saturday night the Ospreys lost to Charleston Southern, 5-4 on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th inning
Late Inning Production: The Ospreys have been feasting on late inning pitching this season, scoring 45 runs of their 78 runs in the sixth inning or later. Their most productive inning this season has been the sixth where they have posted 13 runs this season. In their nine opportunities to hit in the ninth inning, the Ospreys have also compiled 11 runs.
One-Run Ball Games:Â Half of the Ospreys 12 games this season have been decided by one-run in which the Ospreys are 2-4. In addition, North Florida has played in three two-run games, where they are just 1-2.
Last Time vs. FAU: The Owls and Ospreys were only able to play one of their two scheduled games in Jacksonville last season. No. 20 FAU won a pitching duel, 3-2 at Harmon Stadium, not allowing an earned run. The deciding run came in on a wild pitch in the fifth inning. The win allowed the Owls to take a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series that began in 2006.
Scouting the Owls: Appearing at No. 24 in the D1Baseball.com Poll for the first time, FAU comes into Tuesday's contest winners of five of their last six. Their only loss in that strech came at the hands of No. 2 Florida in Jupiter. The Owl pitching staff has not surrendered a run the last 21 innings pitched. In this past weekend's series against Monmouth (N.J.) FAU outscored the Hawks 29-5. Christian Dicks was named Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week. He hit .571 in four games with three doubles two home runs and 10 RBIs. As a team, the Owls have swiped 20 bases this season which is the 14th most in all of Division I baseball.
