What it Means: Wednesday's game will be a non-conference matchup and neither team will be awarded points in the annual
River City Rumble series. It will mark the first non-conference meeting since March 30, 2005 before North Florida entered the Atlantic Sun. The Ospreys will travel back to John Sessions Stadium for a three-game conference series beginning on April 17.
Winning Streak: The Ospreys will have an opportunity to set a new, D-I record for consecutive wins with a victory on Wednesday. After a four-game sweep of Brown this past weekend, North Florida has won eight in a row, tying the program mark set back in 2006. The overall school record of 21 was set in 1988 in just their first season of competition.
Back-to-back Weekly Awards: Redshirt sophomore,
Donnie Dewees claimed the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week Award for the second-straight week. He was 10-for-12 (.714) with two HR's, 10 runs scored and three stolen bases in four games against Brown. He is the first Osprey since Jeremy Paplebon to win the award in consecutive weeks. Papelbon was the A-Sun Pitcher of the Week a total of three times in 2006.
National Rankings: A weekend that included 47 runs and 51 hits vaulted the Ospreys in the national rankings in a number of categories. As of Monday night, the Ospreys have the the second most hits (242) and have scored the third most runs (171) in all of Division I. The Ospreys are also in the top 10 in fielding percentage (.982), ranking eighth and double plays (9), ranking ninth.
RBI Machine: Senior
Trent Higginbothem, who led the Ospreys with 50 RBIs last season, has picked up right where he's left off. He leads the Atlantic Sun and is ranked sixth in the country with 26 RBIs through 21 games in 2015. He has driven in a run in eight of his last nine games.
All-Time Series: Jacksonville is 32-20 all-time against North Florida and has won three of the last four against the Ospreys. The 2014 season ended for the Ospreys on an 7-6, extra-inning, walk-off victory in last year's Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.
Scouting Jacksonville: The Dolphins won their second series of the season this past weekend, taking two out of three against Samford. Jacksonville's signature win of 2015 came back in February when they took down No. 12 Florida State, 5-3 at home. Senior Angelo Amedolare leads a quartet of .300 hitters for the Dolphins. The second baseman is batting .368 on the year with seven doubles and 19 RBIs. He currently ranks second in the A-Sun behind Dewees with eight stolen bases.
