MACON, Ga. – Red-shirt sophomore
Donnie Dewees was named the Atlantic Sun Baseball Player of the Week for the second time in as many weeks. The outfielder had a monster series against Brown, going 10-for-12 (.714) with a pair of home runs and 10 runs scored.
Dewees powered North Florida to a four-game, series sweep of Brown this past weekend as the Ospreys are now winners of their last eight games. In Friday night's series opener against Brown he went 5-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored, three stolen bases and two RBIs. The five hits tie a single-game, D-1 UNF record and marked the first time an Osprey went for five hits since 2011.
Through Sunday's game, Dewees has now hit safely in 15-straight games. In a stretch dating back to last Sunday, Dewees managed to reach base in nine-consecutive at bats. During the 15-game span, he is batting .492 (32-for-65), has scored 32 runs, hit three home runs and collected four triples. He has swiped 10 of his league-leading, 11 stolen bases in the last 15 games.
For the season, Dewees leads the Ospreys with a.414 batting average and is tops in the Atlantic Sun in hits (37), triples (5) and stolen bases (11). Coming into the weekend his five triples were the most in all of Division I baseball.
Dewees and the Ospreys will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel across town to take on Jacksonville at 6:30 p.m.
