JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- With only three games left in the regular season, the North Florida basketball team looks to improve its seeding in the upcoming Atlantic Sun Conference tournament as they host Northern Kentucky in UNF Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game is being sponsored by Southeast Orthopedics, St. Vincent's and Brooks Rehabilitation.
The Ospreys (17-11, 9-2 ASun) made a bit of program history on Thursday night with their win over Lipscomb, which secured UNF its first A-Sun Tournament home game. The victory also made the 2014-15 squad the winningest team in school history.
Against the Bisons, UNF overcame a first half deficit with an explosive offense showing in the second half. Dallas Moore led the way with a team-leading 21 points while Beau Beech sparked a decisive 15-2 run by hitting back-to-back treys.
Northern Kentucky enters Saturday's clash following an overtime loss at Jacksonville on Thursday. The Norse are 11-15 overall and 5-6 in league play and currently tied with Lipscomb for the fourth and final tournament quarterfinal hosting spot.
In the first meeting of the year between NKU and UNF, the Ospreys picked up their first win at the Bank of Kentucky Center out-running the Norse for a 74-66 victory. Chris Davenport scored 24 points to lead UNF in the victory.
Additionally, the Ospreys will have bins at the main entrance for collecting new stuffed animals. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal with them to the game so that later this spring, the team can take all the collected animals to share with children at the Sulzbacher Center.
Following the Northern Kentucky contest, North Florida visits current conference leader Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday night in the team's final regular season road game.
