JACKSONVILLEÂ -- The North Florida basketball team heads into the home stretch of the regular season hosting three of their final four games at home beginning Thursday against Lipscomb at 7 p.m. in UNF Arena. The game is sponsored by Walgreens.
The Ospreys (16-11, 8-2 ASun) are currently in second-place in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings following a 67-51 road victory on Saturday at Kennesaw State. In their last game at UNF Arena, North Florida posted a dominating 77-50 win over crosstown rival Jacksonville on Feb. 6. With 16 victories, UNF has matched the program's single season win record and is just two wins shy of the school's conference win record.
Against Kennesaw State, UNF placed four starters in double figures led by 14 points from Chris Davenport and 13 for Beau Beech. Senior Jalen Nesbitt scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half and was the spark for the Ospreys decisive 25-2 run over the first 10 minutes of the period.
Lipscomb (11-14, 5-5 ASun) enters Thursday's tilt having lost five of their last six including a tough 76-74 defeat on Saturday against Florida Gulf Coast. The Bisons are just 2-11 on the road this season having lost their last three conference road contests.
In the first meeting of the year between the pair in Nashville on Jan. 24, North Florida scored 56 points in the second half to overcome a 19-point effort in the first half and earn a 75-66 victory. Beau Beech keyed the UNF rally hitting six three-pointers in the second half en route to a season best 27-point outing. Both teams entered the first matchup undefeated in league play.
The Ospreys and Bisons rank as the top two three-point shooting teams in the conference with UNF making 9.1 treys per game and LU at 8.5. Thursday's game will be carried live on the internet on ESPN3 (WatchESPN app) as well as over the airwaves in Jacksonville on 1010XL (AM).
