No. 69 @OspreyMTEN Fends Off Furman for 4-1 Victory

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Playing in its last match for the month of February, No. 69 University of North Florida men's tennis claimed a hard-fought 4-1 victory over Furman on a sunny and breezy afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.

"It was a tough match today against a resilient Furman team that is well-coached," said head coach Mark Finnegan. "The guys embraced the challenge and finished the weekend successfully."

UNF took the doubles point and won three of the four finished singles matches against the Paladins, who knocked off No. 67 UCF on Saturday.

Jack Findel-Hawkins and Norbert Nemcsek won the first doubles match of the afternoon, securing a 6-3 triumph at the No. 1 spot against Matt Browne and Ben Horst. The doubles point was clinched at No. 3 doubles with Caio Gomes and Julian Bradley overpowering Jacob Behal and Stefan Rhodes 6-2.

In singles, UNF went up 2-0 in the match after Bradley had a strong second set to cruise past Horst 6-4, 6-0 on the No. 4 court.

Furman collected its only point of the match at No. 3 singles with Cameron Green defeating Nemcsek 6-3, 6-2.

The Ospreys regained a two-point lead with Gomes' No. 2 singles win over Browne. After winning the first set 6-4, Gomes trailed 4-1 in the second set. He rallied for the next five points to erase the deficit and take a 6-4 second-set victory and put UNF up 3-1 in the match.

Zach Goldberg held off Juan Sheppard at No. 6 singles 7-5, 6-3 in order to win the match for the Ospreys.

UNF has another two-and-a-half week hiatus in between matches. The Ospreys return to action against South Alabama on Wednesday, Mar. 4. Match time is set for 3 p.m., at the UNF Tennis Complex. Admission is free to all UNF men's tennis home matches.
