PINEHURST, N.C. -- The North Florida women's golf team sits in fifth-place at 577 after posting two of the best rounds in program history on the opening day of play Monday in the Pinehurst Challenge at Pinehurst No.1 Course (par 72 / 5,949 yards) of Pinehurst Country Club.
UNF started the 36-hole day with a solid round of 290, the fourth best round in program history, before closing the day with a one-under par 287, the second best round in program history. Senior Mary Dawson led the way for the Ospreys firing a morning round of 4-under 68, the lowest round in program history, followed by an even-par 72 to rank seventh with a total of 140.
Junior Lauren Coe carded back-to-back rounds of 1-under par 71 to rank tied for 11th at 142. Senior Emelie Alpe also posted an under-par round, shooting a 1-under 71 after starting the day with a 76 to sit tied for 40th at 147. Seniors Belinda George (75-73=148) and Kelly Aylwin (77-74=151) rounded out the Osprey lineup ranked tied 47th and 66th, respectively.

East Carolina leads the team competition by three strokes after tallying a two-round total of 570 on Monday. Iowa is second at 573 followed by Chattanooga and Elon tied for third at 575 and UNF in the Top 5. William & Mary's Alessandra Liu and College of Charleston's Louise Olsson share the medalist lead at 8-under 136.
Tournament action concludes with a final round Tuesday slated for an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start. North Florida will play alongside Penn State, William & Mary and College of Charleston on holes 4-7. Live scoring is available online at Golfstat.com.
