Final Results
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- With nearly every North Florida women's cross country runner clocking a personal record 5k time, the Ospreys finished third with 90 points at the 26th annual Mt. Dew Invitational held at Florida's Mark Bostick Golf Course.
Freshman Eden Meyer and senior Andelka Tancic led the UNF group with both runners posting Top 10 finishes. Meyer paced the team with a sixth-place showing in a personal record time of 17:35.81, which bettered her previous best by 45 seconds. Tancic was ninth in a personal best 17:45.01.
"The women's team had a very strong showing today," said UNF head coach Jeff Pigg. "I thought Eden's performance was outstanding and Andelka continues to be consistently strong for us. She was under the weather most of the week and had several tests in the classroom but was still able to run at a highly competitive level. It was great to see senior Alyssa Brandt run one of the best races of her career and I'm also excited to see Alexis Irwin rounding back into the form that we know she is capable of showing. Overall, it was a great race for us at this point in the season."
Alyssa Brandt finished third for the UNF lineup posting a personal record time of 18:11.70 to finish 23rd followed by teammate Alexis Irwin in 24th at 18:13.05. Alessandra Valdes finished 28th at 18:18.07 while Dagmar Olsen was 48th (18:38.19) and Elle Baker was 53rd (18:43.29) to round out the Ospreys Top 7 finishers.
Event host Florida captured the team championship with a score of 35 with Georgia Tech second with 67. UCF finished behind UNF in fourth at 117 followed by South Florida (124), Kennesaw State (184), Florida Gulf Coast (205), FAU (208), Florida State (215), Florida A&M (250), Troy (292), Stetson (325) and Jacksonville (334).
North Florida will have two weeks off from competition before returning to action on Oct. 4 at the Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
