DeLAND, Fla. -- The North Florida women's cross country team opened the 2014 season with a solid performance claiming a second-place finish Saturday morning at the Hatter Invitational.
The Ospreys tallied a team score of 65 after the top seven runners posted consecutive finishes from 11th to 17th over the 5K course at River City Nature Park, the site of the Atlantic Sun Championship meet on Nov. 1.
"The women's group ran very solid and stuck together almost the entire race," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "Today's race primary focus was having the opportunity to see the course we will run for conference championship. It was a great way to start off the season."
Senior Andelka Tancic led the UNF pack finishing 11th in a time of 20:32.99, with freshman Eden Meyer following in 12th at 20:34.54 in her collegiate debut. Fellow senior Elle Baker was 13th (20:35.82) with senior Alyssa Brandt 14th (20:37.28), junior Alexis Irwin 15th (20:37.49), sophmore Lauren Gonzalez 16th (20:39.47) and freshman Christinna McKinney 17th (20:40.69) rounding out the Osprey grouping.

Florida Gulf Coast earned the team title with a score of 17 followed by UNF, Stetson (72) and Bethune-Cookman (102).
North Florida next returns to the course on Sept. 6 at the 110% UNF Cross Country Invitational hosted by the Ospreys at the Hayt Golf Center on campus.
