
FIU Prevails in Defensive Battle With @OspreyMSOC

MIAMI, Fla. – Regulation was not enough to decide a winner in the first exhibition match for the North Florida men's soccer team. The Panthers converted a penalty kick in the 100th minute to clip the Ospreys, 1-0 this evening at FIU Soccer Stadium.

The Ospreys were called for a foul inside the box in the which allowed FIU's Isma Lono to convert a penalty kick for the game's lone goal. The two teams went 90 minutes of regulatioin without registering a goal. The two sides agreed to play a full 15 minute quarter to get some players more opportunities and ultimately try to determine a winner.

"We were pleased with our play, we were able to get everyone some minutes with the extended game and saw some of the new guys step and make plays," said Head Coach Derek Marinatos.

Both teams were afforded opportunities on their offensive sides of the ball but neither could find the back of the net until the penalty kick. Kyle Nasta started in goal for the Ospreys and made five saves, four in the first half.

"Both team's goalkeepers played well, and we played a good team in FIU, added Marinatos. "It was nice to get a look at all of our players in game action."

The Ospreys and Panthers have played each other in each of the past three seasons. North Florida took last year's matchup, 1-0 in Miami.

The Ospreys will conclude their preseason schedule on Sunday with a home match against Rollins College at Hodges Stadium. Fans can get their first glimpse of the Ospreys on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free for all attendees.
