Out of the Box
Against Florida Gulf Coast: During the 2014 regular season, the Eagles took two out of three against the Ospreys in Swanson Stadium. Rain forced a Saturday doubleheader in which 2014 A-Sun Pitcher of the Year, Michael Murray pitched eight innings, allowing only two runs for his ninth win of the season. Osprey ace David Trexler started the nightcap and tossed his first career complete game. He struck out 10 batters and allowed only one run in the 132-pitch effort. Since FGCU joined the A-Sun, they have won 16 of 21 games against North Florida.
Possible Second Round Opponent: The double-elimination format will pit the Ospreys up against No. 4 Lipscomb or No. 5 Jacksonville on Thursday. The Wednesday losers will play at 1:15 while the winners will play at 8:15 on Thursday. Against Lipscomb, the Ospreys were able to take two out of three by outscoring the Bisons, 24-7 at Harmon Stadium. Cross-town rival, Jacksonville was able to steal two out of three against North Florida in early April.
History of the No. 1 Seed: Since 1995, the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Sun Tournament is 13-5 in the first round. Three of the five times that the last seed has upset the top seed, they have gone on to win the Atlantic Sun Championship. The last time the No. 1 seed lost in the first round was 2011 when Belmont defeated Stetson, 15-3 en route to their second-straight league title.
All-Conference Selections: For the first time since entering the league in 2006, the Ospreys had three players listed on the Atlantic Sun First Team. Outfielder Drew Weeks, starting pitcher David Trexler and designated hitter Corbin Olmstead earned First Team All-Conference honors for the first time in their careers. Weeks led the league in hitting with a .435 batting average while Olmstead was third in the A-Sun with 10 homers.
Atlantic Sun Tournament History: The Ospreys will take on Florida Gulf Coast in the A-Sun Tournament for the second time. FGCU was the top seed in the 2010 tournament and were outsted by the fourth-seeded Ospreys in the elimination round, 15-2. In the only meeting between Jacksonville and North Florida in the postseason, the Dolphins eliminated the Ospreys with a 8-7 victory in the 2010 tournament.
On the Road Again: North Florida has struggled on the road this season, posting a 5-21 mark away from Harmon Stadium. In Fort Myers, the Ospreys have won only four times in 11 tries.
Atlantic Sun's Top Hitting Team: The Ospreys finished the regular season with a team batting average of .304, tops in the Atlantic Sun and 10th in the entire country. North Florida is the only team in the conference with a team batting average over .300. The Ospreys are third in the league in slugging percentage (.413) and hits with 554.
Weeks Leads Nation in Hitting: Junior right fielder Drew Weeks has spent the majority of the season at the top of the nation's batting average rankings. He has played in all 51 games this season and ended the regular season with a .435 average. He one of two players in program history to ever finish the regular season with a .400 average.
School All-Time Hit Mark: Weeks tied the school single season record last weekend against Kennesaw State with his 93rd hit. In just his third season he became the seventh member of the school's 200-hit club earlier in the year.
