Maguire's Career Low Pushes #MGolf To Top of Irish Creek Leaderboard

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- Junior All-American MJ Maguire fired a career best 7-under 64 in the second round of the day on Saturday helping push the No. 50-ranked North Florida men's golf team into a tie with No. 47 Georgia State atop the leaderboard at the Irish Creek Collegiate.
Maguire's second round, which was bogey free and included five birdies and an eagle, also put him in a tie with Charlotte's Thomas Rowland for the medalist title at 5-under 137 through 36 holes.
The Ospreys finished out the opening day of play with a 2-over total of 570 after posting a first round 291 followed by a near season low 279 (-5) during the afternoon session.
UNF junior Joey Petronio was the squad's top performer in the morning session after carding a 2-under 69 and finished the day tied for 22nd at 145 after a second round 76. Sophomore Taylor Hancock is tied for 27th at 146 after rounds of 74-72.
Sophomores Austin Padova (75-72) and Joe Stepnes (76-71) are tied for 36th at 147 to round out the Osprey lineup in the event.
UNF and Georgia State led the 16-team field with tournament co-host Charlotte is in third just one shot behind at 571. Duke is fourth at 577 followed by Ohio State (579), No. 36 Wake Forest (580), Notre Dame (580), North Carolina (581), East Carolina (583), Appalachian State (584), Indiana (585), tournament co-host Davidson (586), Kansas (589), Richmond (599), Akron (599) and UNC Wilmington (601).
Tournament action at the par 71, 7,099-yard Club at Irish Creek concludes with a final round of 18 holes on Sunday.
