Sluggish Round 2 Keeps #MGolf in 3rd Place at ASun Championship

Round Two Results
BRASELTON, Ga. -- The No. 48-ranked North Florida men's golf team remained in third place following a sluggish round of 297 on Monday in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at The Legends at Chateau Elan.
The Ospreys concluded 36-holes of action with a score of 592 to finish day tied with ETSU. Sophomore Taylor Hancock fired a 2-under 70 to lead the UNF squad in round two.
Hancock's solid second round play vaulted him into a tie for second in medalist competition with a two-day total of even par 144. Junior Joey Petronio joins Hancock among the Top 10 individuals after shooting an even par 72 in round two and is tied for eighth at 148.
Junior All-American MJ Maguire finished with a 79, marking his highest round score since Isleworth in October 2013. Maguire, the defending medalist at the ASun Championship, finds himself in a tie for 17th at 150.
Sophomores Austin Padova and Joe Stepnes rounded out the Osprey lineup posting rounds of 81 and 76, respectively. Padova is in 32nd place while Stepnes sits in 40th.
"Definitely a rough day for the team", said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "We had two guys play well and three really struggle. We will regroup and see if we can shoot a low round on the final day."
No. 28-ranked Mercer leads the team competition at 581, heading into Tuesday's final round of play. No. 42 Kennesaw State is just two shots behind the Bears in second at 583 followed by UNF and ETSU. Jacksonville is in fifth at 603 with Lipscomb (615), USC Upstate (616), Northern Kentucky (619), Florida Gulf Coast (623) and Stetson (626) filling out the team standings.
At 1-under 143, Mercer's James Beale holds a one-shot advantage over a group of four golfers including Hancock in the medalist competition.
The ASun Championship concludes with a final round of 18 holes at the par 72, 7,032-yard Legends course layout. North Florida will be paired with rival Jacksonville beginning at 8 a.m. on Hole 1.
