GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After a week off of competition, the University of North Florida men's and women's track and field teams return to action competing in the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Saturday at the University of Florida.
"Anytime you go to a meet at the University of Florida you know it's going to be a good one," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "There's going to be some good teams competing out there so it will be a great opportunity for us to continue to build as we prepare for conference."
Just two weeks ago the Ospreys were at the Percy Beard Track on the Florida campus participating in the Florida Relays.
The Florida Relays were highlighted by multiple personal records. Junior Elle Baker once again set a personal record in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:39.90, good for sixth place. In the 1500-meter run, junior Alessandra Valdes earned a top-25 finish with a personal record of 4:30.70, while freshman Lauren Gonzalez recorded a personal best in the 5000-meter run, clocking in at 17:35.52.
On day two the women's 4x800-meter relay team led by junior Alessandra Valdes, freshman Morgan Rodriguez, freshman Vanessa Philbert and junior Alyssa Brandt, teamed up to clock a time of 08:58.1 to finish in third place.
On the men's side, freshmen Michael Damato (14:46.70) and Jacob Fuller (14:57.50) both set lifetime bests in the 5000-meter run. Freshman Billy Boros (03:56.80) and sophomore Jeremy Bryan (03:58.50) set personal bests in the 1500-meter run, while junior Maurice Sapp set a record of his own in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 01:53.50.
The men's 4x800 were led by an all freshmen team comprised of Cristian Acuna, Billy Boros, Desmond Robb and Hunter Sport. The freshmen finished in sixth place, crossing the line at 07:51.80 on day two of the Florida Relays.

The one day event begins Saturday at Noon with the women's hammer and concludes with the men's 4x400-meter relays at 8:05 p.m.
