JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- The North Florida women's golf team begin play in just their second Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Monday morning at Pine Lakes Golf Course.
The Ospreys, who finished seventh in their debut appearance in the conference finale last season, enter the competition on a bit of a roll having played some of their best golf over the last month. UNF followed up back-to-back third place finishes with a 10th place finish at the highly competitive Web.com Intercollegiate last week. At the Web.com, North Florida carded the program's first under par team round (286) as well as the best 54-hole total of 894.
A trio of sophomores will lead the Osprey lineup in their return to postseason play. Emelie Alpe has recorded three straight Top 20 finishes heading into the ASun Championship and also leads the team with a 76.81 stroke average. Kelly Aylwin posted her first career round under par (71) at the Web.com and shared the team honor last season with an 18th-place finish at the ASun Tournament. Belinda George rounds out the trio of sophomore returnees for UNF and shares the team lead with four Top 25 finishes this season.
A pair of freshmen will complete the Osprey lineup this week with Nathalie Nygren and Lauren Coe looking to make their postseason debuts. Nygren ranks second on the team with a 77.76 stroke average while Coe is third at 77.81.
The Atlantic Sun Championship is a three-day, 54-hole event played on the par 72, 6,198-yard layout at Pine Lakes. UNF will be paired with Stetson and Jacksonville for round one tee times beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
