JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- The North Florida women's golf team fired a 305 on Monday in opening round play of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at the Pine Lakes Course of Jekyll Island Golf Club.
The Ospreys ended day one in fourth place of a highly competitive 10-team field. Just three shots separate fourth through seventh place and UNF is just five strokes out of third.
Freshman Lauren Coe led the way for UNF shooting a near career low 73 (+1) to finish in a tie for 5th after 18 holes of play. Coe was joined in the individual Top 20 by sophomore teammate Belinda George, who is tied for 18th after a first round 76. Sophomore Emelie Alpe is tied for 21st following her 77 while freshman Nathalie Nygren 79 (T33rd) and sophomore Kelly Aylwin 82 (T45th) rounded out the Osprey lineup.
Mercer carded a first round 294 to grab the top spot in the team standings. Kennesaw State is in second at 297 followed by ETSU (300), UNF, Northern Kentucky (306), Jacksonville (307), Stetson (307), Florida Gulf Coast (308), Lipscomb (312) and USC Upstate (317).
Play at the ASun Championship continues with second round action Tuesday on the par 72, 6,198-yard layout. North Florida will be paired with NKU beginning on Hole 1 at 8 a.m.
