JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The North Florida baseball team will continue Atlantic Sun Conference play this weekend when they travel to East Tennessee State University for a three-game series with the Bucs. The Ospreys are 6-6 this season in Atlantic Sun play while ETSU is one game back in the loss column at 4-5.

About ETSU: The Bucs have left the state of Tennessee only once since March 21st only to take on nearby Appalachian State. In that span of 12 games, ETSU is an even 6-6 with a win over #25 Tennessee who have won six of the last nine meetings against the Vols. The Bucs are led offensively by Clinton Freeman who has garnered both National Player of the Week and Atlantic Sun Player of the Week this season. Freeman leads the league with seven home runs and is tops in the A-Sun with a .617 slugging percentage. The Bucs are coming off a tough three-game series in Nashville where they were swept by Lipscomb.
Series History: The Ospreys have enjoyed recent success against ETSU, winning four of the last five meetings. Last season the North Florida offense scored 31 runs in three games, taking the season-series on Sunday with an 11-4 victory. The Bucs hold a 13-12 edge in the all-time series that began in 2006.
Mid-Week Wrap Up: In the only game of the week for the Ospreys, Florida A&M came away with a 2-0 victory in Tallahassee yesterday. Despite out-hitting the Rattlers 9-7, a trio of FAMU pitchers kept North Florida off the scoreboard. ETSU also had one game prior to the weekend series, a 12-4 win over The Citadel. The Bucs allowed four runs in the first inning but went on to score 12 unanswered runs, snapping a four-game losing streak.
Defensive-Minded: This weekend's matchup features the top two defenses in the Atlantic Sun. ETSU leads the A-Sun with a .972 fielding percentage and has committed a league-low 34 errors. The Ospreys are right behind them boasting a .971 fielding percentage, averaging a little over an error a game.
Bucs Accurate Pitching Staff: ETSU's hurlers have issued 86 walks this season, second to only Mercer in the Atlantic Sun. Osprey pitchers have struggled with control lately, giving free passes to a season-high six batters on Wednesday vs. FAMU. North Florida pitchers have walked five or more batters in at least one game of an Atlantic Sun series this year with the exception of Northern Kentucky
On-Base Streak Ends: Drew Weeks now owns school the school record for the longest hitting streak and the most consecutive games reaching base. Dating back to last season he hit safely in 31-straight game and reached base in 40-straight games to establish new school marks. His on-base streak was the longest since Preston Hale reached in 31-straight games back in 2010. Hale is UNF's all-time leader in hits with 283.
UNF Keys to Victory: The Ospreys have been successful this year when keeping their opponents under five runs. A total of 12 of their 15 wins have come when the opposition has scored five or less. From an offensive standpoint, North Florida is 13-4 when collecting 10 or more hits.
Ospreys in the National Ranks: Coming into the week of play the Ospreys ranked in the top 25 in hits, home runs, and batting average. North Florida is 16th in the country in hits (349), 25th in home runs (21) and 25th in batting average (.300). Junior Drew weeks is fourth in the nation with 56 hits and 11th with a .418 batting average.
Long Distance Help: North Florida is ranked second in the country to Georgia Tech in outfield assists with 14. Against Jacksonville Drew Weeks threw out two runners from right field and moved into the national lead with seven outfield assists.
