#MTEN Outlasts FGCU in A-Sun Opener

 FORT MYERS, Fla.—Caio Gomes clinched the match for the University of North Florida men's tennis team with a three-set win at No. 2 singles as the Ospreys defeated Florida Gulf Coast University 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex in the Atlantic Sun opener for both teams.
"The whole team fought really hard today," said Gomes. "Our energy this afternoon made us feel like it was a home match. I am very happy to be back on the court to be able to help the team after 10 days out."
The Ospreys quickly claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. No. 38 Jack Findel-Hawkins and Norbert Nemcsek defeated Dean Tsamas and Jordi Vives 8-4 at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 position, No. 50 Yannick Zuern and Gomes downed Tianyu Bao and Lance Lvosky 8-4 to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, North Florida grabbed the first singles win with Zuern's 6-1, 6-2 victory over Lucas Vaz at the No. 4 spot. At No. 3 singles, Nemcsek put UNF up to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Tsamas. Gomes clinched the match when he defeated Bao 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at the No. 2 position. Bernardo Craveiro claimed the Ospreys' fifth point when he downed Gabriel Echeverry 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9).
The Ospreys return home for a three-match home streak, which begins against UNC Greensboro on March 12 at 2 p.m., at the UNF Tennis Complex.
