CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Florida will play the first three of a seven-game road trip this weekend when they take on No. 17 North Carolina. The three-game set will begin Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Boshamer Stadium.Â
Both teams come into the series with 4-3 records and are meeting for the first time since the 2008 season. The Ospreys are seeking their first win against a ranked opponent this year after a pair of one-run losses to Florida and Florida Atlantic. North Carolina comes into the weekend winners of their last three games. The Tar Heels tied a season high on Tuesday, scoring 12 runs in victory over Appalachian State.

Pitching Duel: On Tuesday night the Ospreys hosted in-state foe Florida Atlantic and lost 2-1 in a well pitched game by the Owls. Four FAU pitchers combined for a three-hitter, striking out a total of 11 Ospreys in the victory. UNF got a solid five innings out of starting pitcher, Corbin Olmstead who struck out five batters and surrendered both of the Owl runs in the top of the fifth.
Call to the Bullpen: In Tuesday's battle with FAU, Tyler DuPont and Nick Miller combined for four shutout innings in relief. The Ospreys bullpen has allowed only three earned runs in the last 16 1/3 innings of work. A total of 10 of those innings have come against nationally ranked opponents.
About UNC: The Tar Heels come into this weekend ranked in four of the five major national baseball polls. Their highest ranking comes from Perfect Game, where they come in at No. 17. UNC has won the last three-straight games including the last two in a three-game series with Xavier. The Tar Heels rolled past Appalachian State, 12-1 on Tuesday afternoon, tying a season-high for runs.
Brief Series History: This weekend will mark the first meeting between the two schools since 2008. The Tar Heels took both games of a two game series in Cary, N.C. The Ospreys were outscored 20-7 in two games
Slow and Steady Wins the Race: The Ospreys have yet to score a run in the first inning this season while there opponents have crossed the plate five times in their first turn at the plate. UNF has done most of their damage in the second and third innings where they have scored 17 of their 34 runs this season. When holding the lead after five innings this season, UNF is 4-0.
Streaking Ospreys:Â Junior Drew Weeks and sophomore Donnie Dewees, both are in the midst of signifcant hitting streaks. Weeks has been red-hot, and has hit safely in his last 15 games dating back to last season. Dewees has recorded a hit in every game this season and is riding an eight-game hit streak dating back to last year.
