Out of the Box
Doubleheader Sweep: The Ospreys got back to their winning ways this weekend, sweeping a Saturday twinbill against Fairfield. A Donnie Dewees home run proved to be the difference in a 5-3, game one victory. The sophomore went deep for the first time this season and the sixth time in two seasons. In the nightcap the Ospreys were able to hang on to a 5-4 victory. Senior Ryan McMahon got out of a one out, bases loaded jam in the top of the ninth to record his first save of the season.
Hit Party: UNF has recorded double-digit hits in all but one game this season, a 12-1 loss to South Florida. On Saturday the Ospreys tallied 28 hits in two games and recorded a season-high 14 hits in each contest.Â
Nice Little Saturday: Sophomore Drew Weeks had himself a day against in the double dip with Fairfield on Saturday. The right fielder went 6-for-9 with a home run and an RBI against the Stags. He even contributed on the defensive side, gunning down a runner at the plate in game one. Dating back to last season, he is currently riding a 14-game hitting streak.
Call for help: The Osprey bullpen has been superb early on in the season. Saturday's game one starter, David Trexler gave way to Dan VanSickle in the sixth inning. The junior took it from there, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season. The performance is fresh off a four-inning outing in the season-opener that clinched a win over 2013 Big South Champion Liberty. He has yet to yield a run in 7.1 innings of work and has allowed only two hits.
About FAU: The Owls come into today's contest ranked 20th in the latest Perfect Game USA Top 25. FAU comes into the two-game series with a record of 5-2 and series victories over Notre Dame and Momouth (NJ). The Owls' most impressive win this season came last week when they took down #24 Miami, 5-2 in Coral Gables, Fla..Â
UNF vs. Mother Nature: Weather has wreaked havoc on the Ospreys schedule already this season. Friday night's series opener against Fairfield was moved to Saturday and Sunday finale was cancelled due to rain. The Ospreys were scheduled to play four games in the 2014 Best Bet Classic, but ended up playing three after a snow storm along the east coast forced Missouri to cancel its trip to Jacksonville.
