ORANGEBURG, S.C.—The University of North Florida women's tennis team swept South Carolina State 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Bulldog Tennis Courts.
Â
"We competed well today and got the job done," said head coach Audra Cohen. "South Carolina State had solid players and we were able to break them down on every court. We still need to start matches more confident and dictate play from the beginning. Overall, it was a good weekend for us. We need these kind of battles before we begin conference play."
Â
The Ospreys got the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Simona Weymar and Esther Zuniga defeated Oleksandra Filippova and Nynke Van Der Goot 8-1 at the No. 2 spot. Marina Cunningham and Taylor Hollander claimed the other doubles victory with a 8-4 win over Victoriia Khatcei and Marketa Marcannikova at No. 3.
Â
In singles, the Ospreys garnered wins at all six spots. At No. 1 singles, Weymar claimed a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Filippova. Zuniga defeated Kiara Dohanlova 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
