#WSOC Stumbles at Florida Gulf Coast

FORT MEYERS, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's soccer team fell to Florida Gulf Coast by a score of 3-0 at the FGCU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.

"We played really well for most of the match," said head coach Linda Hamilton. "Unfortunately, we weren't able to capitalize on our opportunities at the goal."

The first half was a defensive battle, as both teams were unable to find the back of the net. The Ospreys were outshot 3-to-6 but had a 3-to-1 advantage in corner kicks.

In the 71st minute, the Eagles were able to take the lead on a goal from Paulina Speckmair, which was assisted by Tabitha Tindell. Nine minutes later, Speckmair found the back of the net again for her second goal of the match. In the 85th minute Speckmair sent a pass over the top of the back line to find Shannen Wacker who scored the final goal of the match.

North Florida finished the match with six shots, including five on goal and five corner kicks. Six different players recorded a shot for the Ospreys.

Junior goalkeeper Megan Dorsey recorded seven saves on the afternoon for the Ospreys, while Brittany Brown tallied five for the Eagles.

"We look to bounce back and capitalize on our opportunities next week when we take on JU," said Hamilton.

North Florida is back in action on Friday, Oct. 4, as the Ospreys take on crosstown rival Jacksonville University at Southern Oak Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
