#WSOC Comeback Falls Short in #RiverCityRumble

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior forward Thea Linkfield scored the lone goal for the University of North Florida in a 3-1 loss to Jacksonville at Southern Oak Stadium on Friday evening.

The match was evenly-matched from the start with the Ospreys holding an 8-6 advantage on shots while the Dolphins owned a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks at the half. The Ospreys threatened to score early in the match when sophomore midfielder Jill Holdsworth took a free kick from just outside the box, which just sailed above the crossbar.

In the 29th minute, Miranda Fyfe took a shot from 20 yards out to give the Dolphins the lead.

Down 1-0 at the half, the Ospreys continued to come out on the attack. Just a minute and 15 seconds into the half, senior forward Carolina Lencina dribbled past a few defenders made a pass to Linkfield who found the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1.

In the 52nd minute, the Dolphins regained the lead when Sarah Moghadas converted a header off of a corner kick. Less than five minutes later, JU scored again when Jessica Cataldo-Ramirez sent a shot from 25 yards out to the top left corner of the goal. Â

As expected the match was very physical from the start, as both teams combined for 22 fouls in the River City Rumble rivalry. The Ospreys outshot the Dolphins 22-14, but trailed 6-2 in corner kicks.

Holdsworth led the Ospreys with six shots, followed by Lencina with five. Moghadas tallied four shots, including three shots on goal for the Dolphins.

Junior keeper Megan Dorsey made some impressive saves at goal for the Ospreys, recording four on the night. Sarah Sierra also had a four saves to earn the victory for the Dolphins.

The Ospreys are back in action on Friday evening as they welcome Northern Kentucky to Patton Park.
