Keating’s Goal the Difference as WSOC Shuts Out College of Charleston

Charleston S.C. – In the 36th minute of a road match against College of Charleston, the University of North Florida's sophomore defender Lanie Keating scored the only goal of the match, giving the Ospreys' women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over the Cougars on Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point in Charleston, S.C.

"We played a very good team," head coach Linda Hamilton said. "We were able to take what we learned from our last match and finished the match strong."

Keating scored the only goal of the match on a free kick from 42 yards out that went untouched. Senior midfielder Heather Botelho ran a cross route in front of the goal, which blocked the vision of Cougars' goalie Eli Saraola as the free kick was made.

Offensively, both teams were even. North Florida tallied 13 shots on the afternoon to CofC's 14. Each team posted five shots on goal. Senior Keara Murphy led the Ospreys with four shots and while fellow senior Carolina Lencina added three shots of her own.

Mccallie Jones was able to get off four shots for the Cougars.

The match was a defensive battle for each team. Freshman goalkeeper Susie Ford recorded five saves to earn her first collegiate shutout, while Sarasola made four stops for the Cougars.

UNF was able to utilize 19 players in the match, including six freshmen.

"I'm very proud of how our team played today." Hamilton said. "It was great getting a quality win on the road."
