JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team is set for a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference road series with Stetson this weekend at Melching Field at Conrad Park in DeLand, Fla. The first two games of the series are slated for 6:30 p.m., while Sunday's game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
All three games will be aired on the radio with the Voice of the Ospreys, Robert Harper, handling the play-by-play. Game one will be on 92.5 FM Jax Sports Radio on Friday night. Both games on Saturday and Sunday will each be broadcast on both 92.5 FM and 1010 XL AM.
Live stats and in-game tweets (@OspreyBSB) will also be available for each game. In addition, this weekend's games will feature live video on HatterVision and ASun.TV.
North Florida enters the weekend with a 33-12 overall record and a league-best 14-4 mark in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Ospreys are 22-7 at home and 10-5 on the road this season. UNF is fresh off of a 5-4 victory over Georgia Southern in 11 innings for the program's 1,000th win.
Stetson is 21-23 overall and 10-8 in the Atlantic Sun. The Hatters topped Jacksonville, USC Upstate, ETSU, and most recently Lipscomb to improve to 10-8 in league play. Stetson stands in fifth place in the conference with three weekends to play.
The Hatters lead the all-time series with the Ospreys, 18-13. North Florida is 6-9 in Jacksonville and 7-9 in DeLand. Since making the transition to Division I in 2006, North Florida is 9-12 against Stetson. The series dates back to the Ospreys' inaugural season of 1988, but the two teams did not consistently meet on the diamond until North Florida joined the A-Sun in 2006.
Over the weekend, the Ospreys will look to secure a spot in the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. North Florida needs to win or a Lipscomb loss to secure a spot in the eight-team field.
The Ospreys have made the A-Sun Tournament just once in program history in 2010 – the first year the team was eligible for the tournament following NCAA Division I reclassification. This season the A-Sun Tournament will be held at Melching Field in DeLand, Fla.
The Ospreys are currently receiving votes in some notable baseball polls. UNF is receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) top 30 poll, as well as, the USA Today/ESPN top 25 poll. Perfect Game lists North Florida as one of the “others to watch” in its latest poll. The Ospreys are also receiving votes in the College Baseball Daily Mid-Major Poll, while UNF opponents Mercer (1), South Alabama (4) and Florida Gulf Coast (18) are all ranked in the poll.
Offensively, the Ospreys have put up some big numbers. As a team, North Florida is hitting .327, including a .358 clip in Atlantic Sun play. All nine everyday starters are hitting above .300 overall and in conference play.
