JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida softball finishes up four-consecutive home weekend series at the UNF Softball Complex with Northern Kentucky. The three-game Atlantic Sun series has potential postseason implications. It will also be the first meeting between UNF and Northern Kentucky.
The Ospreys go into this weekend with an overall record of 34-12 and are second in the Atlantic Sun standing with a 12-5 mark. UNF has a shot a clinching its first-ever berth to the A-Sun Tournament this weekend. The Ospreys would have to sweep Northern Kentucky, but would also need to for Jacksonville to sweep Kennesaw State.
UNF comes off a doubleheader split against Stetson. Although UNF came out solid in Game One with an 8-0 five-inning victory, the Ospreys faltered in Game Two, letting Stetson take a 6-2 win. Junior Mariah Reynolds recorded home runs in both games against the Hatters and has had a powerful bat as of late. She's blasted a home run in five of UNF's last six games and currently leads the team with nine homers on the season.
Pitcher Kaylie Wallace continues with a stellar sophomore campaign and enters the weekend leading the A-Sun in ERA (1.48) and wins (18). Wallace was also named UNF's Co-Female Athlete Of The Year on Tuesday evening at the annual UNF Athletics banquet.
Playing in its first NCAA Division I campaign, Northern Kentucky just finished a four-game homestand, which included a mid-week game against Miami (Ohio). The Norse stumbled against Miami (Ohio) after the Hawks scored the game-winner in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 win. However, in their latest Atlantic Sun series, the Norse swept ETSU in a three-game series last weekend. Northern Kentucky's trip to UNF will be the start of an eight-game road swing. Dee Dee Davis leads the Norse with a .302 batting average and enters the weekend with a 10-game hitting streak.
Game One starts Saturday 1 p.m., Game Two is set for 3 p.m. and first pitch for Game Three is at 1 p.m. on Sunday from the UNF Softball Complex. The series begins on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., from the UNF Softball Complex. Admission to all UNF softball home games is free.
