JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida softball picked up its 10th-consecutive win on Saturday with a pair of wins over St. Bonaventure in the second day of the Osprey Invitational at the UNF Softball Complex. UNF posted a 4-1 win in the final game of pool play in order to secure the tournament's top seed and then recorded an 8-4 victory in order to advance to Sunday's Championship game.
“In Game One, we scattered eight hits, but managed to group three hits in the third inning to score three runs,” said head coach Marcie Hickey. “Our defense was a little sloppy in Game Two, but we made great adjustments at the plate and really drove the ball well. Speed is one of our assets this year and we were really able to take advantage of stealing bases.”
The Ospreys got out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the first inning when Lauren Pollack had a bases-loaded single to bring home Danica Mandarano.
UNF added a second run when Brittany Hendrix dashed home on a squeeze bunt by Marissa Thomas. Runners were on the corners when Mandarano hit an infield single and Holton cross home to put the Ospreys up 3-0. Meanwhile, the Ospreys took advantage of a Bonnie error and McAdam scored from second for UNF to take a 4-0 advantage.
St. Bonaventure got on the scoreboard as Victoria Brown scored on a Jessenia Andujar double.
Cortney Radke picked up the win after allowing one run off four hits in 7.0 innings. Radke struck out four.
Carly Bilchak gave up three earned runs off eight hits in 6.0 innings.
Kelly Wilson was 3-for-3 from the plate.
Four different Bonnies registered hits.
In Game Two, St. Bonaventure jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Two UNF errors allowed Emily McDonough and Lindsay Stowell to each score.
UNF answered in the bottom of the third with Holton and Shay Richardson getting across the plate. Holton got home on a Mariah Reynolds double to left center, while Richardson, who pinch ran for Reynolds, scored on a Thomas RBI single to make it 2-2.
UNF's bats came alive in the fourth inning with the Ospreys getting five runs. After McAdam scored on a wild pitch, Jackie Reese smashed a two-run shot to left center to give the Ospreys a 5-2 lead. Reynolds and Thomas added two more runs later in the inning and UNF took a 7-2 lead.
The Ospreys added another run in the sixth with Mandarano getting home on a Wilson double.
St. Bonaventure attempted to comeback in the seventh, getting a pair of runs, but the Bonnies left the bases loaded when the inning ended.
Kayla Goff got the win after striking out six – including the game's final out – in the last 3.2 innings. Goff gave up four hits and had two unearned runs.
Alexis Sloat had the loss in 3.2 innings, giving up six earned runs off nine hits and striking out two.
Reese and Thomas were both 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Hendrix, Reynolds and Mandarano each had two hits as well.
Katie Sinclair and Hailey Enderby were both 2-for-4 with one RBI for the Bonnies.
