EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Following a week off for fall semester exams, the North Florida basketball team returns to action Tuesday night against No. 5 Michigan State at the Breslin Center.
The Ospreys (5-6) are playing their fourth ranked opponent of the season and second in a row. UNF dropped an 89-68 decision at Indiana in their last outing on Dec. 7. Against the Hoosiers, freshman Dallas Moore scored a career best 27 points.
Moore currently leads UNF in scoring averaging 11.8 points per game. Senior Travis Wallace ranks second in scoring at 11.6 ppg and tops the Ospreys in rebounding with 7.3 boards a contest. North Florida is averaging 72.6 points a game as a team this season, an increase of over 6.0 ppg over last season's average.
Michigan State enters Tuesday's tilt with an 8-1 record. The Spartans opened the year 7-0 and were ranked No. 1 in the nation before suffering a 79-65 loss to North Carolina. MSU posted a 67-63 win over Oakland on Saturday night.
The Spartans are led in scoring by Gary Harris at 17.6 points a game followed closely by Keith Appling at 16.9. Adreian Payne (16.3 ppg/8.0 rpg) and Branden Dawson (10.0 ppg/9.3 rpg) are both posting a near double-double per game this season.
Tuesday's game marks the first meeting between the Ospreys and Spartans. UNF is 0-7 all-time against teams from the Big Ten including an 0-2 record this season.
The UNF-MSU game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network. In addition, fans can follow the action on the radio at 1010 XL (AM)/ 92.5 FM in Jacksonville listening to the "Voice of the Ospreys", Robert Harper.
Following the Michigan State game, the Ospreys tip-off a three game home stand Saturday against Bethune-Cookman at 7 p.m.
