Nine Shot Improvement Pushes #MGolf Up Leaderboard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The North Florida men's golf team moved up four spots from the morning to the afternoon on day one action in the Eagle/Osprey Intercollegiate at Deerwood Country Club.
The Ospreys ended the opening day of play with a 36-hole total of 601, following rounds of 305-296. Junior MJ Maguire, who is in a three-way tie for second just one shot behind the individual leader, paced UNF carding rounds of 70-73 for a one-under-par 143.
Sophomore Austin Padova opened with an 82 before rallying in the afternoon with a one-under 71 for a two-round 153 (T-43rd). Senior Taylor Johnson fired a near career low 73 to start the day followed by an 81 for a 154 (T-51st).
Juniors Parker Jones and Joey Petronio posted rounds of 80-76=156 (T-61st) and 82-76=158 (T-75th), respectively, to complete the Osprey lineup. In addition, redshirt freshman Osten Waite (75-76=151/T-32nd) and sophomore Taylor Hancock (72-81=153/T-43rd) competed as individuals.
In the team competition, Vanderbilt leads the 15-team field at 583 with Southeastern Louisiana in second at 590. First round leader Mercer, slipped to third at 592 followed by FGCU (593), tournament co-host Georgia Southern (594), Tulsa (595), Troy (598), UNF, GRU Augusta (605), Southern Miss (607), Francis Marion (608), Furman (613), Jacksonville (615), Lipscomb (617) and Loyola-Md. (623).
Mercer's Trey Rule holds a slim one-stroke advantage in medalist play after rounds of 67-75=142.
Tournament action concludes with a final round of 18 holes of play at Deerwood CC. The Ospreys will begin play at 7:30 a.m. alongside Troy and GRU Augusta.
