JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – University of North Florida volleyball ends the regular season with two critical matches at ETSU and USC Upstate this weekend. The Ospreys face ETSU on Friday at 7 p.m., and then USC Upstate on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Â
"We are looking forward to the challenging road trip," said head coach Steve Loeswick. "Even though it is our last regular season weekend, our team is still striving to be the best we can be. ETSU is the best team in our league and is very well coached. USC Upstate is a very good defensive team and we will have to play a very aggressive and efficient offense in order to be successful in their gym."
Â
The Ospreys enter the weekend as one of three teams fighting for the two remaining spots in the Atlantic Sun Tournament. UNF is in contention with Kennesaw State and Florida Gulf Coast for the final spots in the six-team tournament. The Ospreys have to win on Friday night to remain in the hunt for postseason play.
Â
UNF comes off a split during last weekend, falling 3-0 to Kennesaw State before rebounding with a 3-1 win over Mercer. It is the second-straight season in which the Ospreys' final regular season weekend has involved ETSU and USC Upstate. In 2012, the regular season finale was at UNF Arena.
Â
ETSU can lock up the Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championship with a win on Friday night and a Jacksonville loss. The Bucs are in the midst of a four-match homestand. Their only conference loss this season was a 3-2 setback at Jacksonville a month ago. ETSU leads the A-Sun in blocks with 2.74 per set. Additionally, the Bucs has the A-Sun's top two individual blockers in Meredith Hardy (1.46 per set) and Khadijah Wiley (1.13 per set). Hardy and Wiley also lead ETSU in hitting with .348 and .308 hitting percentages, respectively. Megan Devine averages a team-best 4.55 kills per set, while Jamie Rutledge is putting up 10.90 assists per set.
Â
ETSU leads the all-time series 11-4 and won this season's earlier meeting 3-2 on Oct. 19.
Â
USC Upstate attempts to snap a three-match losing skid the weekend. The Spartans are out of contention for the Atlantic Sun Tournament and head into the weekend with a 3-13 A-Sun record. USC Upstate's last win was a 3-2 victory over Presbyterian on Oct. 29, but the Spartans have not won a conference match since a 3-0 sweep of Kennesaw State on Oct. 22. Kayla Eversgerd has a team-best 3.59 kill-per-set average, while Morgan Page enters the weekend averaging 4.32 digs per set.
Â
UNF leads the all-time series with USC Upstate 30-5 and won this season's first meeting 3-1 on Oct. 18.
