JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida Volleyball Head Coach Abby Gilleland announced the addition of Assistant Coach J.T. Deppe on Monday.
Deppe most recently served as the Men's Head Coach at Barton College from 2023-25, where he guided the Bulldogs to a 33-45 record while leading Barton to its first 10+ win season since 2020 in just his second year at the helm.
"We are thrilled to welcome J.T. to UNF and the Osprey Volleyball family," Gilleland said. "He is a rising star in the profession and brings valuable head coaching experience to our gym. His knowledge of the game, strong relationships with athletes and attention to detail set him apart. I am confident he will play a key role in elevating our program to the next level."
"I'm super excited for the opportunity to work with the volleyball program here at the University of North Florida," Deppe said. "I want to sincerely thank Abby Gilleland for providing me with this incredible opportunity. I would also like to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support throughout this transition into the women's game. Additionally, I'm incredibly grateful to all of my former players, colleagues and mentors who have helped shape me into the coach I am today. I'm excited to get to work and help our student-athletes become the best competitors, students and people they can be. I truly believe this program is on its way to becoming something special."
Deppe led Barton to a 16-13 record and coached five Bulldogs to 2025 All-Conference Carolinas honors in his third season leading the program. Barton claimed the No. 3 seed in the 2025 Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Tournament after Deppe guided BC to a 10-4 record in conference play.
Under Deppe's leadership, Barton increased its win total from zero the year prior to his hire, to 12 victories in just his second season. Barton's 10-4 conference record in 2025 was its best since 2019. The Bulldogs advanced to the 2025 Conference Carolinas Championship semifinals for the first time in six years in Deppe's final year at the helm.
Previously, Deppe served as a volunteer assistant for King University's women's volleyball program and also coached for Notre Dame Academy in Milwaukee. On the club side, Deppe has experience coaching for the Milwaukee Sting Volleyball organization.
The Mukwonago, Wisconsin, native was a standout player at King for five seasons from 2018-2022. Deppe graduated as one of King's most illustrious all-time players, ranking third in program history in assists.
In addition, Deppe led the Tornados to two Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championships in 2018 and 2019, a 2018 league tournament title and a berth in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Deppe is a five-time Conference Carolinas All-Academic honoree.
Deppe earned his MBA from King in July of 2022.
