JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's soccer team returns to Patton Park this weekend as they continue Atlantic Sun Conference play against Northern Kentucky (4-8-1) on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. and Lipscomb (4-5-4) on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
Â
Last weekend, the Ospreys' (3-8-2) comeback fell short against crosstown rival Jacksonville, as UNF dropped a 3-1 decision at Southern Oak Stadium. In a physical battle, the Ospreys outshot the Dolphins 22-14, but trailed 6-2 in corner kicks.
Â
JU grabbed the lead when Miranda Fyfe scored from 20 yards out. Down 1-0 at the half, the Ospreys continued on the attack and tied the game when Thea Linkfield scored off a pass from Carolina Lencina just 15 seconds into the second half. Despite the momentum shift, the Dolphins regained the lead in the 52nd minute and scored once again in the 57th minute.
Â
Last season, the Ospreys came back to beat the Norse 3-2 in their first meeting. Kathryne Husted tied the match in the 88th minute to send the match into overtime. Michele Larrinaga notched the match-winner in the 10th minute of overtime to give the Ospreys the victory.
Â
NKU dropped both matches last weekend to Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson. The Norse come into the weekend 0-4-0 against conference teams. Allison Ponzer leads the Norse with three goals scored.
Â
North Florida grabbed a 3-2 victory over Lipscomb last year in Nashville. Heather Botelho scored the match-winner in the 84th minute off a pass from Lauren Hopfensperger.
