Â
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – North Florida seniors Thea Linkfield, Carolina Lencina and Heather Botelho each scored a goal Sunday in a 3-0 women's soccer victory over the USC Upstate Spartans at Country University Stadium.
Â
"We played really well today from start to finish," said head coach Linda Hamilton. "We had a job to do and we got things done."
Â
UNF got things started off early, capitalizing on goal from Linkfield in the 2nd minute of play which gave the Ospreys a quick 1-0 lead. Linkfield would find the back of the net after taking a through ball from sophomore Jill Holdsworth.
Â
The Ospreys extended their lead to 2-0 in the 16th minute. Senior forward Lauren Hopfensperger sent a cross to the middle finding an open Lencina, who tapped the ball to score.
Â
Botelho added a UNF insurance goal in the 34th minute when the Spartan's defense attempted to clear the ball. Botelho intercepted the clearing attempt and blasted a shot into the net from 30 yards out.
Â
