FORT MYERS, Fla. – University of North Florida volleyball plays its final out-of-town match of an eight-match road stretch on Tuesday night when the Ospreys visit Florida Gulf Coast. Match time is set for 7 p.m., from Alico Arena.
UNF will attempt to rebound from an 0-2 Atlantic Sun Conference opening weekend at Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb. Senior Paige Pridgeon had double-doubles in both of those matches and so far in her career, she's logged double-doubles in 23 of the 45 A-Sun matches she's played.
Senior Nicole Baran is closing in quick on becoming UNF's all-time leader in digs. Baran enters this week with 1,581 career digs and is just 36 digs away from breaking Tara Taylor's career record mark of 1,616. Already this season, Baran's tallied 30-or-more digs in four matches, including a career-high 33 against Davidson on Sept. 8.
Florida Gulf Coast is one of two A-Sun teams that are undefeated in conference play. The Eagles, who are 6-7 overall and 2-0 in the A-Sun, snapped a five-match skid last weekend with wins at Kennesaw State and Mercer. Tuesday's match will be the Eagles' first home match of the season and kicks off a three-match homestand. Florida Gulf Coast's attack has been spread out among five players who have at least 80 kills on the season and have combined for 440 of the team's 509 kills. Christine Pinder has a team-best 96 kills and is followed by Kaitlin Holm (88 kills), Jill Hopper (87), Olivia Mesner (86) and Brittany Muse (83).
Florida Gulf Coast leads the all-time series 12-2 and defeated UNF three times last season. The Ospreys have not won against the Eagles since their 3-0 sweep of the Eagles in the 2005 season.
