UNF Golf Seventh After Day One at Shoal Creek

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of North Florida men's golf team concluded day one play at the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Graeme McDowell in seventh place posting a 36-hole total of 587 at historic Shoal Creek Country Club.
The Ospreys opened Monday's morning play in fifth position following a first round 292 before closing with a 295 in afternoon play. Sophomore MJ Maguire led the way for UNF finishing the day in sixth at 141 (-3) after rounds of 73-68.
Senior Kevin Phelan is tied for 18th at 146 (+2) including the team's best first round score with a two-under 70 and a second round 76. Sophomore Joey Petronio is tied for 30th at 149 (75-74) with freshman Austin Padova in 39th at 151 (74-77) and senior Pete Kellerman tied for 46th at 153 (75-78) rounding out the Osprey lineup. Junior Taylor Johnson, who is playing as an individual, ended day one in 54th at 157 (80-77).
Houston leads the team competition at 571 (-5), holding a five shot lead on LSU at 576. Tournament host UAB is third at 577 followed by Tulsa (578), Memphis (578), North Texas (581), UNF, Kennesaw State (588), Dartmouth (605), Southeastern Louisiana (606) and Southern Mississippi (611).
North Texas' Rodolfo Cazaubon finished the day atop the individual medalist board at six-under 138.
Tournament action concludes Tuesday with a final round on the par 72, 7,234-yard layout of Shoal Creek. The Ospreys will begin play on the 10th tee at 9 a.m. (CT) alongside Dartmouth and Kennesaw State.
