CLEMSON, S.C. -- The University of North Florida women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Clemson on Sunday afternoon.
"I think we were very competitive against a tough team," Head Coach Linda Hamilton. "We gave up a couple goals that may have been preventable and it's difficult to do that against a good team and still get a result."
Sophomore forward Liska Dobberstein scored both goals on headers for the Tigers, notching one in each half. Her first tally came in the 32nd minute when she nodded a cross from Allie Kington into the right corner of the net. She got loose again in the 59th minute, this time heading home a cross from the left side to give Clemson its final 2-0 margin.
UNF was outshot 15-7 on the day and trailed in corner kicks, 4-2. Junior Carolina Lencina (three shots) and sophomore Sam Scalf (two shots on goal) paced the Osprey offense on the day. Senior Michele Larrinaga and junior Heather Botelho also notched shots on goal for UNF.
Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Beninati tallied four saves for the Ospreys on the day, while Clemson goalkeeper Hunter Rittgers grabbed five saves en route to the shutout.
"We scheduled these tough early-season games to give ourselves a look at top competition," Hamilton said. "I think we've done that and we're going to use them to improve and become a better team."
The Ospreys will next be in action on 6 p.m. on Friday, August 24 as they welcome South Carolina State to Hodges Stadium in UNF's 2012 home opener.
