Complete Game Notes
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida women's soccer team will hope to carry the momentum of back-to-back victories in exhibition games into this weekend, as they open up their 2012 season with trips to Furman and Clemson.
This past weekend, the Ospreys flexed their offensive muscle in a pair of exhibition games, taking down The Citadel, 4-2, on Friday evening, before blanking Florida International 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Ospreys travel to Furman (Fri. August 17, 8 p.m.) to open their 2012 campaign against a team that posted a 12-8-2 overall record last season. The Paladins, picked to finish third in the Southern Conference this year, will be lead by forward Martha Hall and defender Ali Simpson, both preseason All-SoCon picks by the league's coaches.
Furman has beaten UNF in both of the teams' previous meetings. In 2009, the Paladins grabbed a 3-1 win at Hodges Stadium. Then, two years later, Furman beat the Ospreys 2-1 in a match played on the campus of Jacksonville University. The 2011 match was decided when Furman poked in the deciding goal with just 31 seconds remaining. Then-sophomore Keara Murphy scored the Ospreys' lone goal that day.

In the weekend's second match, UNF will continue down the road to face Clemson (Sun. August 19, 1 p.m.), who returns seven starters from last year's 6-12 squad. The Tigers will be led by Maddy Elder, who has topped the team in scoring for the last three years, and Heather Marik, a three-year starter on defense.
The Ospreys have only played Clemson once in the program's history, dropping a 2-1 decision in Clemson during the 2010 campaign. In that match, UNF gave up two goals in the first 20 minute, but never managed to draw the contest level again. However, the lone Osprey tally on the day was scored by then-freshman Lauren Hopfensperger in the 87th minute and was her first collegiate goal.
