GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Both the men's and women's 4x400 relay teams broke UNF school records to highlight a limited second day of competition for the University of North Florida track and field teams at the Florida Relays on Saturday afternoon.
On the women's side, senior Ava Rivera, junior Jaybria Calcote and sophomores Sharniece Supal and Brianna Frazier clocked a 3:43.67 to finish 22nd. The time also broke the school record in the event, set at 3:46.45 last year by a similar squad.
The men finished 29th in their race, as freshmen Jake Menen and Cecil Rolle and juniors Nick Squillace and Justin Mims clocked a 3:13.99, setting a new school record in the process.
Sophomore David Shepherd took eighth in the pole vault to round out the second day for the Ospreys. Shepherd, who recorded a mark of 5.10m (16-8 3/4), finished sixth among collegiate competitors and was just 0.05 meters short of his conference-leading season best.
The UNF track and field teams will take a weekend off next week before they gear up to host the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track Championships at Hodges Stadium on April 20-21.
