Sand Volleyball Tops Jacksonville, 3-2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –The North Florida sand volleyball team posted a 3-2 victory Friday over crosstown rival Jacksonville at the Dolphin Beach Volleyball Complex.
With the win, the Ospreys improved to 5-2 in dual matches and earned a sweep over the Dolphins (1-3) this season after topping their rival 4-1 to open the schedule on Mar. 9.
In addition to earning the victory, Friday's match also marked the sand debuts for UNF sophomore Anna Budinska and freshman Cameron McGuire. Budinska returned to competition after suffering a knee injury late in the indoor season while McGuire also came back from an injury.
UNF earned victories at the No. 2, 3 and 5 pairings. Julie Trembley and Carolyn Jenkins posted a 2-0 (21-17, 21-16) win over JU's Cullen-Strausburg pairing at number two while Budinska paired with Britt Claessens in the third spot and earned a straight set victory 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) against Robertson-Kane. McGuire teamed with Paige Pridgeon for a 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) win at No. 5.
The Dolphins' points were won at No. 1 and 4 positions. UNF's top tandem of Dagnija Medina and Emily Strack went three sets before falling to JU's tandem of Courtney-Whitmire, 2-1 (19-21, 21-11, 10-15). Nicole Baran and Allison Shirley lost in straight sets at No. 4 for the Ospreys.
Next up on North Florida's schedule is the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament Apr. 20-22 at JU's Dolphin Beach Volleyball Complex.
