No. 52 Men's Tennis Edges Belmont, 4-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the second match in a row, Daniel Sotomarino's No. 2 singles win was the match-decider as No. 52 University of North Florida men's tennis held off Belmont 4-3 in Atlantic Sun play on Friday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.
 
Sotomarino's 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over Henriqu Norbiato at No. 2 singles gave UNF the final team point the Ospreys needed in order to secure the victory.
 
UNF began the day with a three-match sweep in doubles. Daniel Sotomarino and Norbert Nemcsek defeated Renato Antun and Rafael Matos 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Mortiz Buerchner and Graham Edgar downed Norbiato and Rodrigo Amaral 8-3. Leonardo Nahar and Pedro Davisson took an 8-6 win over Fernando Mussolini and Bruno Silva at No. 3 doubles.
 
Four of the six singles matches went to three sets as the Ospreys and Bruins each won three singles matches. In addition to Sotomarino's No. 2 singles win, UNF picked up three-set wins at both No. 1 and No. 4 singles. Buerchner rallied after falling to Antun in the first set to come back with a 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot. At No. 4 singles, Nahar also rebounded after dropping the first set to defeat Mussolini 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
 
Belmont's points came at the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 positions. Amaral defeated Davisson 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, while Matos defeated Edgar 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (5) at No. 5. At No. 6 singles, Silve defeated Timo Kranz 6-4, 7-6 (2).
 
UNF plays its final home match of the 2012 season tomorrow when the Ospreys host Lipscomb at the UNF Tennis Complex. Prior to the match, the Ospreys will honor their only senior – Edgar. The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., and will be played in conjunction with the UNF-Lipscomb women's tennis match.
