JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – No. 58 University of North Florida men's tennis locked up the No. 2 seed for the 2012 Atlantic Sun Men's Tennis Championships on Friday when the Ospreys defeated Kennesaw State 6-1 on Friday evening.
UNF got out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point.
Moritz Buerchner and
Graham Edgar had an 8-4 No. 1 doubles win over Gianni Kubin and Simon Janik.
Julien Belair and
Beauregard Treyz posted an 8-5 win over Michael Browder and Louis Theodor at No. 2 doubles. Kennesaw State prevented a doubles sweep with Alexander Pena and Alex Toliver defeating
Leonardo Nahar and
Pedro Davisson 8-7 (6).
In singles, UNF took five of the six matches. The Ospreys got a pair of two-set wins at the No. 1 and No. 6 courts. Buerchner took a 6-4, 6-1 win over Toliver at No. 1, while
Timo Kranz also had a 6-4, 6-1 win against Pena at No. 6.
The last three of the Ospreys' matches were in three sets. Davisson rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Theodor at No. 2 singles, while Nahar held on for a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (3) victory against Janik at No. 3. Treyz added a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 No. 4 singles win over Kubin.
The Owls' only point was at No. 5 singles with Gokalp Ozdemir winning 6-0, 3-6, 4-4, ret., against Edgar.
UNF concludes the regular season at Mercer on Saturday at 10 a.m.
