FORT MYERS, Fla. – No. 56 University of North Florida men's tennis won the doubles point and five of the six singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory at Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday night.
UNF got out to a 1-0 lead after the wins at No. 1 and No. 2 in the doubles competition.
Norbert Nemcsek and
Daniel Sotomarino posted an 8-4 No. 1 doubles win against Matthew Rock and Lance Lvovsky. At No. 2 doubles,
Graham Edgar and
Moritz Buerchner defeated Dean Tsamas and Jackson Moore 8-2. Florida Gulf Coast prevented the doubles sweep with Tianyu Bao and Michael Beiler having an 8-6 win over
Leonardo Nahar and
Pedro Davisson at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Buerchner downed Bao 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot, while Sotomarino had a 6-4, 7-6 (1) No. 2 singles win over Moore. Nemcsek posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Tsamas at No. 3 singles and Davisson added a 6-1, 7-5 win against Rock at No. 4. Nahar picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win against Lvovsky at No. 5 singles.
Florida Gulf Coast's only point came at No. 6 singles with Beiler defeating
Timo Kranz 6-4, 6-4.
UNF returns to action on Saturday afternoon when the Ospreys travel to Stetson. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
