Baseball Opens Road Swing at FIU

MIAMI, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team opens up a five-game road trip with a pair of games against FIU on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 13-14, at the FIU Baseball Stadium in Miami, Fla. Tuesday's game is slated for 6:00 p.m., while first pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
The Ospreys (11-4) enter the road swing after finishing last week 4-0. North Florida opened up the week with a 19-1 road victory against Florida A&M. Following the game with the Rattlers, the Ospreys swept South Alabama at Harmon Stadium, clinching the sweep with a walk-off grand slam in the 13th inning by Garrick Ferguson.
For his efforts last week, Tyler Marincov was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week. The sophomore hit safely in all four games with three multiple hit games. Marincov led the Ospreys in hits, home runs, RBI, slugging percentage and total bases. He batted .556 on the week, going 10-for-18 with a double and a pair of home runs. Marincov drove in six runs while scoring five runs. The sophomore boasted a .944 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage.
College Baseball Daily released its Top 25 Mid-Major Poll and the University of North Florida baseball team entered the rankings at No. 23. After opening the season 1-2 (.333), North Florida is 10-2 (.833) in its last 12 games. Since the calendar switched to March, UNF is 7-1 (.875).
The Ospreys are 2-3 (.400) all-time against the Panthers and 0-2 (.000) in games played in Miami. North Florida opened up the series with a 5-4 victory at Harmon Stadium on March 17, 2008. The following year, UNF fell 10-6 and 3-0 in a pair of road games to FIU. Last season, the Ospreys and Panthers split a pair of midweek games at Harmon Stadium – W, 6-3 and L, 8-14.
Scouting the Opposition:
FIU enters the midweek tilt with a 7-6 (.538) overall record. The Panthers opened up the season at No. 6 Houston for three games before a three-game road series with No. 8 Florida State.
The Panthers are 6-1 (.857) at home this season with a three-game sweep of Brown. FIU also claimed a 14-6 victory over ACC foe Boston College. Most recently, the Panthers claimed a three-game series with Fordham.
